General Description

CHA is the largest university hospital in Europe, 8,000 students being enrolled. The working group “Experimental Nephrology and Hypertension” has a strong expertise in chromatographic techniques, MALDI- and LC- mass-spectrometry and general analytical methods working on isolation, identification, and physiological characterisation of endogenous cardiovascular and kidney failure mediators. The group is equipped with state of the art proteomic facilities like a MALDI/ESI-FT-Orbitrap-mass-spect, two LC-ESI-trap mass-spects, a MALDI-TOF//TOF- mass-spect, four biocompatible HPLC, four additional HPLC, MALDI-Spotter, matrix-spotter for MALDI-imaging; in-house database for proteomic analysis, 2-dim Gel-electrophoresis, FPLC, fluorescence & microplate reader, fully equipped cell-culture lab, lab with bioassays etc. These facilities will be used within iMODE-CKD to isolate, identify, quantify and characterised plasma peptides involved in CKD using a plasma proteomic-based approach.

Joachim Jankowski, Dr. rer. nat., Univ.-Prof., holds a chair for “Experimental Nephrology and Hypertension” at the Charité. He received his Diplom from Ruhr-University of Bochum, Germany, receive his Doctor rerum naturalium degree from the University of Bremen, Germany. He was habilitated by the Ruhr-University of Bochum, Germany. He has a long-standing involvement in cardiovascular diseases and ample experience in research management. Dr Jankowski has also been partner in the European FP7 project SysKid, Mascara and Priority as well as more six national and binational projects. He will be the main supervisor of ESR7.
